Employment Down On the Coasts

Here is a map of unemployment changes in the country's largest metro areas, according to Moody's Economy and Brookings:



Is it just me, or is it odd to see a map of the U.S. that is red on the coasts and blue in the middle?


According to the Moody's Economy report, the San Francisco metro area is among the second-weakest metro areas for employment in the country today.

Topping off the list for the worst metro areas for employment are Detroit, New Orleans, and Fort Meyers, while all three of the best metro areas for employment are in Texas.

Red and orange spots in blue states and blue spots in red states. Seattle is better than Portland, and Washington has a Republican Attorney General, Hmmm...

Is there a statistically relevant inverse relation to how conservative or liberal a state is and how the job market is doing?
